New Zealand Champions at Twickenham

Champions New Zealand ended the HSBC Sevens World Series in style by winning their fifth cup in London.

They had to do it the hard way, coming from 21-0 down to defeat Australia 52-33 at Twickenham.

New Zealand had already secured the overall title ahead of South Africa before they arrived in London.

But they showed they were still hungry for more success after Australia, who were looking to give coach Michael O'Connor a winning send-off in his final match, raced into the lead.

Tries from Tom Lucas, Afa Pakalani and Con Foley were all converted but back came New Zealand through Tom Lucas and a brace from Scott Curry.

A Gillies Kaka try put New Zealand ahead but Foley crossed to level things at 28 points apiece.

It was New Zealand who were stronger in the final stages, though, as tries from Ben Lam, Kaka and Adam Whitelock helped them over the 50-point mark.

England, who had lost 15-12 to Australia in the semi-finals, secured third place with a 26-19 win over Fiji, narrowly beaten 12-10 by New Zealand earlier.

South Africa won the plate final with Canada lifting the bowl and USA triumphing in the shield.
