Newcastle Falcons have confirmed tighthead prop Jon Welsh has rejoined the Gallagher Premiership club for the remainder of the 2020/21 season.

Welsh made his senior club debut with Glasgow Warriors in 2008 having won a Pro12 with them and joined Newcastle Falcons in 2015. He made 57 appearances including 46 Premiership games before injuries forced him to leave the club last year.

The 34-year-old prop also has played 12 Tests for Scotland between 2012 and 2018 including four appearances in the 2015 World Cup.

“Jon is a proven performer and an outstanding character, so it’s great news that we have been able to add him to our squad," he told the official website of the club.

“He has overcome some injury setbacks over the past couple of years but through a lot of hard work he is fit and in good condition, and has already started training with the squad.

“We are entering a real key phase of the season where the league games start to come thick and fast, and having the likes of Jon to call upon will really strengthen our chances of continuing the strong start we have made to the campaign.”

Newcastle Falcons director of rugby Dean Richards is delighted to have the services of Welsh back.
