Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt has expressed confidence in the future of Australian rugby as the team looks ahead to the highly anticipated British & Irish Lions tour in 2025.

Despite a challenging season marked by inconsistent performances, Schmidt remains optimistic about the squad's development and long-term potential.

Speaking after the Wallabies’ recent European tour, Schmidt highlighted the importance of balancing immediate competitiveness with building depth for the future.

He emphasized the gains made during the season, including the integration of new talent and the progress in developing combinations across the squad.

“We’ve been trying different combinations and giving opportunities to new players, all with an eye on the future,” Schmidt said.

“The Lions tour is a massive event, and we want to ensure we are as competitive as possible while continuing to strengthen our depth.”

The Wallabies’ recent performances, including a mix of promising displays and tough defeats, have sparked debates about the team’s readiness for the Lions series.

Schmidt acknowledged the challenges but insisted the team is on the right track, with a clear focus on refining their strategies and building consistency.

“The Lions tour is an incredible occasion for players and fans alike,” Schmidt added.

“We are fully committed to putting in the work needed to deliver a performance that makes the nation proud.”
