Gloucester have confirmed the signing of experienced lock Joe Joyce, with the former Bristol Bears forward set to return to the Gallagher PREM ahead of the 2026/27 season after a spell with Connacht Rugby.
The Bristol-born second row made a strong name for himself at Ashton Gate, where he amassed 150 appearances for Bristol Bears between 2014 and 2023.
During that period, Joyce became a key figure in the squad and was voted Players’ Player of the Season in 2018. He moved to Connacht in 2023, gaining further experience in the United Rugby Championship.
Standing 6ft 5in and weighing around 119kg, Joyce is expected to bring added physicality and experience to Gloucester’s forward pack as the club continues to reshape its squad for the seasons ahead.
Joyce expressed his enthusiasm about the move, saying he was looking forward to returning to PREM rugby and contributing both on and off the field.
“I’m really excited about making the move to Gloucester and getting back into PREM Rugby next season, it’s a fantastic opportunity for me," he told the club's official website.
“I’m someone who prides myself on working hard, setting high standards, and using my experience to help drive the group forward.
“I want to make a positive impact on and off the field and play my part in helping the Club achieve success.”
