Gloucester Rugby have confirmed the signing of experienced lock Jean Kleyn, who will join the club ahead of the 2026/27 Gallagher PREM season.
Kleyn brings significant top-level experience to Kingsholm, having represented both Ireland and South Africa at international level.
Born in South Africa, he later qualified for Ireland through residency before switching international allegiance and playing a key role in South Africa’s Rugby World Cup triumph in 2023.
Standing at 6ft 8in, Kleyn is known for his physicality, high work rate, and abrasive edge in contact. His arrival is viewed as a statement of intent as Gloucester aim to push higher up the PREM table.
Kleyn said he was excited by the opportunity to join Gloucester, citing the club’s history, supporters, and long-term vision as major reasons for making the move.
“I’m thrilled to be joining Gloucester Rugby next season," he told the club's official website.
"It’s a club with incredible history and a passionate fan base, and the vision shared with me really matched what I was looking for in the next chapter of my career.
“I can’t wait to get started, meet the supporters, and give everything I have for this team.”
He is expected to link up with the squad during pre-season preparations ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
