Edinburgh have confirmed the signing of Jaco van der Walt ahead of their upcoming Pro 14 clash against Toyota Cheetahs.

The fly-half has penned a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Scottish regional side and will join the squad immediately.

Van der Walt, who was part of the local university side UJ during the 2014 Varsity Cup competition joined Golden Lions later that year and made his Super Rugby debut for the Lions in 2015.

Edinburgh head coach Richard Cockerill said: "Jaco is a skilful young player who is equally adept at stand-off or fullback.

"He's an excellent goal kicker and will provide cover in key areas for us. We're delighted that he's chosen to be part of what we're building here at Edinburgh."

Earlier, Stuart McInally also signed a contract extension with the Scottish regional side while reports also indicate that John Barclay is set to join the club from Scarlets.

Edinburgh are currently positioned fourth in Conference B of the ongoing Pro 14 season.
