Connacht are sweating over the fitness of Ireland fly-half Jack Carty for the upcoming United Rugby Championship fixture against Munster to be played at Sportsground on the New Year's day.

The 29-year-old is recovering from a foot injury that he sustained during the Heineken Champions Cup game against Leicester Tigers and if he misses out, Conor Fitzgerald is expected to take the kicking responsibility.

"We're still looking at him to be honest," said head coach Andy Friend.

"He ran today and ran well today but we'll need to see how he pulls up tomorrow. The form he's in at the moment, you'd love to have him involved."

The last time these two teams met was in the fourth round of the competition when Munster edged out Connacht 20-18 with Carty kicking 13 points on the losing cause.

Connacht are positioned 8th in the United Rugby Championship table with three wins from seven games.
