Ireland skipper Johnny Sexton is set to miss the remainder of the season for Leinster following his latest injury setback.

Sexton, whose career has been hampered by injuries sustained a groin injury during Ireland's Grand Slam winning game against England at Twickenham Stadium.

The 37-year-old, who will retire at the end of the Rugby World Cup in France later year will undergo a procedure to address the issue.

"Johnny Sexton will see a specialist on Tuesday and have a procedure on the groin injury picked up in Ireland's Six Nations game against England, which will likely keep him sidelined for the remainder of the Leinster Rugby season," Leinster said in a statement released.

The news also effectively will end his career with Leinster, who are eyeing a Heineken Champions Cup and United Rugby Championship trophy double.

Ireland will kick-start their Rugby World Cup campaign with a clash against Italy in Dublin on 5th August.
