Australia captain Harry Wilson has vowed that the Wallabies will bounce back in the second Test against the British and Irish Lions on Saturday, aiming to take the series to a decider in Sydney.
Despite a 27-19 defeat in the first Test, Wilson remains confident that his side will perform much better in the rematch in Melbourne. The Wallabies have been bolstered by the return of powerful forwards Rob Valetini and Will Skelton, who were sidelined for the opening Test due to injury.
Wilson, who plays at number eight, acknowledged that the Wallabies didn’t execute their best game plan in the first Test but believes the team will grow stronger with the experience of facing the Lions.
“There’s no denying it, we’ve got to go out there and win. We’ve got to win the next two to win the series,” Wilson said.
Reflecting on the first Test, Wilson added, “It feels as if we probably didn’t play the sort of footy we wanted to in the first Test and didn’t fire as many shots as we would have liked.
"We didn’t start too well, but in the second half, once we got a bit of possession and territory, and started playing our sort of footy, we took a lot of confidence from that.”
With the series on the line, Wilson emphasized the importance of a fast start and physicality, saying, “We want to impose ourselves physically. We want to back our skills and we want to go out there and start fast.”
For many of the Wallabies players, the first Test was their first-ever encounter with the British and Irish Lions, and Wilson believes the team will be more prepared this time. “There was a lot of unknown in the first Test, whereas this week we know what’s coming,” he said.
The second Test will be crucial for both teams, with the Lions looking to seal the series, while the Wallabies aim to keep their hopes alive.
