Harlequins have secured the signing of South African second row Irne Herbst ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Herbst, who had represented South Africa Under 20 and South Africa Schools in the past made his professional rugby debut with Blue Bulls in 2016 before joining Southern Kings a year later.

The 28-year-old will now head to Twickenham Stoop after being part of Benetton since 2017/18 season and helped them win the Rainbow Cup in 2021.

“I’m delighted to have signed with Harlequins. To join such a prestigious team within English rugby and the current Premiership champions is a fantastic opportunity," he told the club's official website.

“Harlequins play one of the most famous brands of rugby in the world at the moment and an attacking style that’s so clearly connected to the team’s history and DNA. I’m looking forward to putting in the work and playing my part in the team.

“This is a team that is very clear on how they want to play and how they want to operate and I’m eager to get stuck in next season.”

Harlequins are at third place in the Gallagher Premiership table with 14 wins from 22 matches.
