Scotland international Grant Gilchrist has signed a contract extension with Edinburgh that will keep him with the Pro14 club at least until 2022.

Gilchrist made his professional rugby debut with Edinburgh in 2011 and has racked up 129 appearances for the Scottish regional side since then.

His consistent performance for the club saw him named vice-captain in 2015 and co-captain alongside Stuart McInally a year later.

“I’m delighted to commit to Edinburgh for another three years," said the 28-year-old.

“I love the club and the direction we are going in together. I believe if we keep developing and working hard we can do something really special in the next few years and I’m very excited to be part of that future.”

Gilchrist, who also featured for Scotland Under 19 and Under 20 teams made his Test debut during the 2013 Six Nations encounter against France and has overall 28 appearances for the national side including the recently concluded autumn international game against Argentina.

“We’re really happy that Gilco has extended his stay with the club.

“He’s a focal point of our team and has shown tremendous leadership ability both on and off the pitch. He’s a quality international player and we’re delighted that he has chosen to be a part of what we’re building here at Edinburgh.”
