Wales great George North has announced that he will retire from professional rugby at the end of the season, bringing the curtain down on a career that has spanned 16 years since his international debut.

The 34-year-old leaves the game as one of the most recognisable figures of his generation in Welsh rugby.

George North Retirement Confirmed

North confirmed the decision in a video message, saying the end of the season would be the right time to step away from rugby.

He thanked his family, friends and supporters for their backing throughout his career and said he was now looking ahead to the next chapter of his life.

"Hi guys, I just want to come on here and let you know at the end of the season I'll be retiring.

"For me, it's the right time. I've been able to live out my childhood dream for many seasons playing with some of the best players, coaches and the staff behind.

"I can't thank my family, my friends and you guys enough for the support you've shown me over the years.

"Honestly it's meant the world to me. The next chapter Still working on that one, but I'm excited to see where that journey takes me.

"So again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Diolch."

George North Wales Career And Record

North made his Wales debut in 2010 as a teenager and went on to win 121 caps for his country before retiring from international rugby in 2024. He finished with 47 tries for Wales, leaving him second on the men’s all-time try-scoring list for the national side.

He also toured twice with the British and Irish Lions and became one of the leading backs of his era through his power, finishing ability and consistency on the international stage.

George North Club Rugby Journey

North began his senior career with Scarlets before joining Northampton Saints in 2013, where he won the PREM title. He later returned to Wales with Ospreys in 2018 and spent five years there before moving to French club Provence.
