George Kruis reaping benefits of Eddie Jones' approach

George Kruis insists England are already beginning to reap the rewards of Eddie Jones' unforgiving approach to conditioning his players.

Four weeks into his first camp and Jones claims he has already noted a 30 per cent upturn in the fitness levels of the matchday 23 retained throughout the RBS 6 Nations to date compared to those players released back to their clubs.

The Australian believes players have enormous capacity for hard work if pushed to their limits and in the 40-9 victory in Rome, Kruis took encouragement from seeing Italy wilt first.

"We've had two games so it's hard to tell, but against Italy we ran a lot and there was a high ball in play," Kruis said.

"I had a puff on but you look across at the other side and it makes it worth it. Especially in the last 20 minutes - we were just a bit sharper.

"The training we've been doing is bit different to the clubs. It's a bit more intense.

"The way it's structured, there are no breaks in the session and we have ultimate resources.

"You can move from one thing to another and everything is quite detailed and well planned out. I think that is the difference and the intensity is a bit higher.

"It's so well organised that you aren't waiting for someone to go and pick up the bags.

"You move on to the next drill and everything is set out and detailed plans go into it - it's just not off the cuff.

"International is very different to the Premiership and there are always differences, but hopefully this is the way forward."

England enter their clash with Ireland next Saturday with victories over Italy and Scotland in the bank.

"It's a good start, we're sitting in a good place and we know we have some pretty tough teams ahead of us," Saracens lock Kruis said.

"But it's a good start for a new era and gives us confidence going into these games. We're in a pretty good place and are looking forward to next game."
