Gloucester Rugby have confirmed that South African hooker will rejoin the Gallagher Premiership club for the remainder of the 2019/20 season.

Marais had already played for the Cherry and Whites since 2018 and was set to join Red Hurricanes at the end of his contract with Gloucester in May.

However, with the pandemic coronavirus cancelling the Japanese Top League season, Gloucester have decided to retain the services of the 27-year-old with the Premiership set for resumption from 14th August.

Marais had played for Sharks between 2012 and 2018 before heading to Kingsholm and also had represented South Africa Under 20 and South Africa A sides in the past.

Gloucester are positioned ninth in the Gallagher Premiership table with four wins from 13 games and will face Worcester Warriors next on 15th August at Sixways when the tournament resumes after the outbreak of Covid-19.
