South Africa have survived a Covid-19 scare following their landing in Queensland for the remainder of the Rugby Championship as a staff member returned false positive.

The squad landed in Queensland from Cape Town along with the Argentina players on a charter flight but upon arrival a staff member in the Springboks camp was tested positive according to a report in Sydney Morning Herald.

The report further claimed that both the squad members were asked to isolate themselves until Monday but since then the fully vaccinated staff member has returned two negative tests that was conducted by by the Springboks’ team doctor and a PCR test following which a Rugby Australia spokesperson said the case was considered false positive by the local authorities.

Had the case returned positive then the two teams would have been kept under isolation until next Sunday which meant they could not have trained ahead of their games on 12th September.

Jacques Nienaber's men will be locking horns with hosts Wallabies while Argentina will face New Zealand in the third round with both the matches scheduled to be played in Gold Coast.
