Exeter Chiefs 35-10 Sale Sharks, Sandy Park
Scorecard

Exeter Chiefs inched closer in securing the quarter-finals berth in the ongoing Heineken Champions Cup after they defeated Sale Sharks 35-10 at Sandy Park on Sunday.

This is Exeter's fourth win from as many games as they now have 19 points while Sale Sharks are at third place with six points.

The opening 20 minutes saw Aj MacGinty kicking a penalty kick in the 18th minute to give the visitors a slender three point lead but Exeter responded back strong with Sam Simmonds breaching the defence of Sale Sharks for the opening try with Joe Simmonds improving it as the teams finished the first half with a 7-3 scoreline.

Sale also suffered a setback with Ben Curry leaving the field in the 25th minute after failing a head injury assessment and they had a struggling start to the second half with Curtis Langdon sin-binned for repeated infringements.

Exeter made full use of the numerical advantage with Sam and Joe Simmonds scoring back to back tries making it 21-3. Even though Sam James crossed the whitewash in the 62nd minute giving Sale glimmer of hope, Ben Moon and Jack Nowell tries in the final 10 minutes ensured a 35-10 win for Rob Baxter's side.

Exeter will now head to Scotstoun Stadium to take on Glasgow Warriors in the next round on 11th January while while Sale Sharks will face La Rochelle on 10th January.
