Lyon lock Etienne Oosthuizen has been suspended for three weeks following his red-card incident during the recently concluded European Champions Cup clash against Glasgow Warriors at Scotstoun Stadium.

The 25-year-old was sent-off during the 70th minute of the game last Saturday for striking fly-half Adam Hastings with his arm which was a breach of law 9.12.

Oosthuizen appeared before a three-member independent disciplinary committee comprising of Jeremy Summers (England), Chair, Rory Bannerman (Scotland) and Val Toma (Romania) where he was proved guilty of the charges.

The committee stated that Oosthuizen's action attracted a mid-range sanction and was initially handed a six-week ban but that was reduced by half considering his previous disciplinary record, conduct during hearing and other mitigating factors.

Oosthuizen's suspension will be effective until 6th January, though he and EPCR are both eligible to make an appeal against the decision.

Lyon are yet to win a game in the Heineken Champions Cup after playing four matches as they languish at the bottom of Pool 3.
