England leave out Danny Cipriani in 36-man training squad

England coach Eddie Jones has left out Gloucester fly-half Danny Cipriani in the 36-man squad that will undergo a training camp in Bristol from Sunday.

Cipriani made his England comeback during the June series in South Africa where he made his first start for the red rose team in 10 years during the final Test in Cape Town and also impressed for the Cherry and Whites in the initial stage of the ongoing Gallagher Premiership season.

The 30-year-old was recently fined £2,000 apiece by Jersey Magistrates' Court and Gloucester after he pleaded guilty to a common assault and resisting arrest in Jersey in August following which Jones insisted that he will be judged based on his 'rugby form'.

Despite the setback of missing three-day training camp, Jones said Cipriani will be in contention for the autumn internationals in November.

Sale Sharks winger Chris Ashton, who recently returned from France is included in the squad despite him serving a seven-week ban for a tip-tackle and is scheduled to return mid October while Manu Tuilagi also finds a spot as he aims to make a return for the red rose team after last featuring for them in 2016.

There are also recalls for Danny Care, George Kruis, Zach Mercer and Jack Nowell while uncapped duo Nathan Earle and Joe Cokanasiga are also called-up as England prepare for the autumn international clashes against South Africa, New Zealand, Japan and Australia at Twickenham Stadium.

"The training camp in Bristol is our last opportunity to get the squad together before the Quilter Internationals so it is vital we put down some parameters, particularly with John Mitchell coming in as defence coach," said Jones.

"We'll implement a slightly different defence philosophy building on the great work Paul Gustard has done to keep advancing our defence. It's a great opportunity for the players to work with John and for the team to keep evolving.

"It's a chance to get the players thinking about England and the way we want to play for England and the way we want to beat South Africa. These players have the opportunity to press their chances for selection ahead of the first Test so they will have to be enthusiastic and ready to give their best."
