England’s Women’s Six Nations campaign has suffered another blow after Hannah Botterman and May Campbell were ruled out for the rest of the tournament, adding to a growing list of unavailable forwards ahead of the second round.
The Red Roses are now dealing with a mounting injury problem in the pack as they prepare for Saturday’s match against Scotland at Murrayfield.
England Women Injury Crisis Worsens
Botterman will undergo a second ankle operation after the injury she suffered while playing for Bristol Bears in December, while Campbell is set for knee surgery next week.
England said both players will continue their rehabilitation with their clubs in coordination with the Red Roses medical staff.
The latest update leaves England without two more front-row options at a crucial stage of the championship. Their absence further weakens a squad already hit hard by injuries in recent weeks.
Alex Matthews Ruled Out Against Scotland
England will also be without No 8 Alex Matthews for the Scotland fixture after she picked up a shoulder injury in the 33-12 win over Ireland at Allianz Stadium, Twickenham.
To cover the growing injury list, Bristol Bears lock Delaney Burns and Saracens prop Liz Crake have been brought into the squad.
Red Roses Pack Hit By Multiple Absences
The new injuries come only days after Morwenna Talling and Natasha Hunt were ruled out for the remainder of the Women’s Six Nations following leg injuries sustained in the second half against Ireland. England’s second-row options have also been reduced by the unavailability of Zoe Stratford, Abbie Ward and Rosie Galligan due to pregnancy.
