England and Leicester Tigers have been dealt a blow with lock Ollie Chessum sidelined by a shoulder injury.
Chessum sustained the injury during the recently concluded Premiership defeat against Bristol and is now set to undergo a surgery.
He will now miss the remainder of the ongoing season for Leicester Tigers but is expected to be available for the start of the 2024/25 season in September.
The news also effectively rules him out of England's June Test against Japan and the two-game series against All Blacks.
Chessum has been a consistent starter in all matches of the current Six Nations tournament and has emerged as a crucial member of Borthwick’s squad, earning 23 caps in the process. The majority of these caps have been earned in the second row position, where England presently lacks experienced choices.
Leicester Tigers are positioned eighth in the Gallagher Premiership table with eight wins from 16 matches.
