Edinburgh sign Matt Shields as replacement for Michele Rizzo

Edinburgh have secured the signing of former Harlequins prop Matt Shields for the remainder of the ongoing season.

The decision follows after Leicester Tigers have recalled Italy international Michele Rizzo from a loan spell with the Myerside outfit after a shoulder injury to Ellis Genge that will keep him on the sidelines for up to two months.

Shields came through the Newcastle Falcons academy and played for Nottingham, Plymouth and Darlington Mowden Park before moving to Harlequins.

He later made a switch from the Quins to Greene King IPA Championship side Rotherham Titans ahead of the 2017/18 season.

Edinburgh are currently positioned fourth in Conference B of the Pro 14 table with six wins from 10 games.
