England coach Eddie Jones has ruled out of the possibility of taking charge of the British and Irish Lions for their 2025 tour of Australia.

Jones has been the head coach of England post the 2015 World Cup taking over from Stuart Lancaster and went on to sign contract extension with the Rugby Football Union until the 2023 World Cup in April last year.

The 61-year-old has guided England to maiden series win in Australia in 2016 and back to back Six Nations title in 2016 (Grand Slam) and 2017 before steering them to the final of the 2019 World Cup in Japan.

Answering to Telegraph's readers' questions, Jones said he would not take up the Lions job if offered as he did not have any previous connections with them and believes options within the four countries that constitute the squad will suit them better.

“Respectfully, no. I am an Australian and I don’t really have any connection to the Lions as such,” Jones wrote.

“I think it’d be better for someone from the home countries to do it. I’m also not suited to wearing a blazer 12 months of the year.

“Someone like Gregor Townsend or Andy Farrell would be better for that job than me.”
