England rugby coach Eddie Jones has drafted former NRL star and Melbourne Storm defensive coach Jason Ryles to help create 'brutal' England defence.
Jones has added Ryles to his backroom staff on a temporary basis ahead of his side's autumn internationals against the Springobks, Fiji, the Pumas, and the Wallabies.
Jones believes Ryles, who will be charged with assisting Paul Gustard, can make significant contribution to improve his side's defence.
"We want to bring that harder edge to our defence so he (Ryles) is in for a couple of weeks to assist Paul Gustard," said Jones at the England squad's training camp in Portugal.
"We brought him over and I think he'll make a hell of a difference.
"There are certain technical issues we can learn from rugby league and Jason brings those."
Jones wishes to make 'brutal defence' a consistent feature for his side, especially if the red rose squad aspires to beat the Springboks during the autumn internationals face-off.
"We want it to be one of the trademarks of the team. And we want it to be that way in every game, not just sometimes.
"To beat the Springboks we need our defence to be absolutely brutal. That is one of the things that we want to practise this week."
