Dragons will miss the services of Argentina international scrum half Gonzalo Bertranou for the remainder of the season following a foot ligament injury.

Bertranou sustained the injury during the United Rugby Championship game against Vodacom Bulls earlier in the month and now will undergo a surgery and has been effectively ruled out for the remainder of the ongoing campaign according to the club's defence coach Simon Cross.

“We’ve had some bad news this week with Gonzalo,” said Cross on Bertranou, who has played four times for the club this season.

“He’s had an operation on his foot, and he won’t feature for us again this season, which is a huge disappointment for us all.

“Gonzalo is an integral part of squad, and he will obviously be missed. He is a great competitor; a great bloke and we wish him well with his recovery.”

Meanwhile, Cross revealed that back row Ollie Griffiths, who left the field with a pectoral injury during the Challenge Cup clash against Section Paloise will be assessed in the coming week.

“It doesn’t look like he needs an operation which is good news,” added Cross.

“It was disappointing to see Ollie come off early in Pau, but nobody will work harder than him to get back out on the field as soon as possible.”

Dragons are positioned 14th in the United Rugby Championship table with three wins from 12 matches while they are at fifth position in Pool B of the European Challenge Cup.
