Dragons have announced the appointment of Sam Hobbs as the new forwards coach ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Hobbs had already worked as an Academy head coach this season and has worked with Newport RFC as forwards coach. He also had worked with Wales Under 18 and Under 20 teams in the past.

He also has played over 100 times for Cardiff between 2010 and 2016 apart from featuring in 42 games for Dragons before announcing retirement in 2018.

The 36-year-old will now join the back room staff comprising of Filo Tiatia as defence coach and Matt O’Brien as backs coach.

“I’m very excited to take on the senior role in the Dragons RFC and look forward to building on the positive work of recent seasons," he told the club's official website.

“We have an exciting squad being built here and several talented young forwards coming through who will become key figures for us.

“I’m looking forward to us working hard ahead of next season to continue to make strides and develop as a pack of forwards.”

Dragons finished the 2023/24 season of the United Rugby Championship at 15th place with just three wins from 18 matches.
