Christian Lealiifano to make Ulster debut against Cheetahs

Australia international Christian Lealiifano is all set to make his debut for Ulster after he was named in the starting line-up for the opening game of the Pro 14 season against Cheetahs.

The 29-year-old wants to phase his comeback to the national side following a year long battle with leukemia and has the blessing of his Super Rugby side Brumbies.

Jean Deysel and John Cooney, who were recently signed by the Ireland regional side will also make their debut. Cooney and Lealiifano will join for a half back partnership while Stuart McCloskey and Tommy Bowe link the midfield. Louis Ludik, Andrew Trimble and Charles Piutau will comprise the back three combination.

Captained by Chris Henry, Ulster will be desperate to kick-start their campaign with a victory against Cheetahs, who make their debut in the tournament on Friday.

Craig Gilroy, who suffered a stress fracture in his lower back is expected to be out of action until November.
