The BUCS Rugby Union league programme has announced that they will introduce a bonus points scoring system across all the leagues for the 2015/16 season.

Following a recommendation made by the BUCS Rugby Union Sports Advisory Group in April last year, they have decided to extend the bonus point scoring system from the Premier, Tier 1 and Tier 2 levels down throughout the entire Men's and Women's leagues.

This recommendation was taken to the Competitions Group, and was passed at BUCS Conference in time to be implemented for the 2015-16 season.

Breakdown of BUCScore for this season:

  • The overall match score should be input in to BUCScore as per usual protocol (e.g. 15-24).
  • On submission of the overall score, BUCScore will prompt users on the next screen to input the additional score information pertaining to the number of tries/conversions/drop-goals scored during the match per team.
  • 1 bonus point will be scored either if a team scores 4 or more tries in one match or if a team loses the match but is within 7 points of the winning team (e.g. losing 24-29).
  • In this respect, a team may win 2 bonus points if they lose 31-34, having scored 4 tries in the match.
  • In all tiers of competition, 4 points will be awarded for a win, 2 for a draw and 0 for a loss. Walkovers conceded will result in a loss of 5 points, with 5 points awarded to the non-offending team.
