England head coach Eddie Jones has announced to his squad currently on tour of Argentina that the second Test in Santa Fe is the best opportunity to force their way into his 2019 World Cup squad.

Jones raised the stakes by also announcing that many players from the squad may get only one game to have the opportunity to show they are good enough to be in contention for the next World Cup.

Jones, who is due to name his 45-man Elite Player Squad (EPS) in early August, has confirmed that 80% of the World Cup squad will be selected from the same lot.

“This next Test is really important for these players,” he said.

“They have to understand they may get only one game to have the opportunity to show they are good enough to be in contention for the next World Cup. You can always get those X-factor players who suddenly come through. We have seen a few now who previously we didn’t have on the radar. You always want that to happen. But, generally speaking I would think 80% of the [World Cup] squad will come from the next 45-man squad [announced in August].”

Jones has confirmed that he will be making changes for the second Test with flanker Chris Robshaw fit again after an ankle injury which led him to miss-out on the first Test in San Juan where the visitors managed to sneak in a late 34 - 38 win following a late 78th minute try by Denny Solomona.
