Centre Izaia Perese scored the decisive try for Australia in the 77th minute as they went on to beat Wales by 24-17 in a thrilling World Rugby U20 Championship encounter at Avchala Stadium on Wednesday.

Cameron Lewis got Wales off the mark with an early fourth minute try while fly-half Arwel Robson kicked the conversion. Despite, suffering a setback through Simon Kennewell's sin-bin, Australia responded back with a touchdown from Henry Hutchison while scrum-half Harrison Goddard added a penalty and conversion apiece on either side to take them to a 10-7 lead at half time.

Even though Wales fought back through a touchdown from Dane Blacker, Australia responded back with replacement Harry Johnson-Holmes strolling past the post two minutes later.

Australia had a slender 17-14 lead as the game entered the final 10 minutes and Robson helped Wales level the scores with a drop goal in the 76th minute but their happiness were restricted to just one minutes as Perese danced past the post and was followed by an extra from replacement Harry Nucifora as Australia completed a seven point victory.

Australia are positioned second in Pool A that is topped by England while Wales are at third.
