Elton Jantjies missed a last-minute penalty as the Rugby Championship clash between South Africa and Australia ended in a 27-27 draw for the second time this season at Toyota Stadium on Saturday.

The first half was equally competed after fullback Israel Folau went past the line in the 10th minute while fly-half Bernard Foley slotted a conversion and also a couple of penalties to take the Wallabies to 13 points.

However, South Africa made a comeback with a touchdown from Ruan Dreyer with number 10 Elton Jantjies kicking an extra and a penalty apiece as they trailed by three points at half time.

The game had a lot of intensity after restart as Jan Serfontein (42') and Courtnall Skosan (48') went past the line for Springboks while winger Marika Koroibete (45' and 55) scored back to back tries as Michael Cheika's men maintained their three point lead.

As the game was heading for the final 10 minutes, Jantjies scored a vital penalty in the 69th minute to help South Africa level the scores 27-27. The fly-half did have a chance to seal a thrilling victory for his side but could not convert the decisive penalty from a difficult angle in the final minute.

South Africa and Australia maintain their second and third position in the table with 13 and 10 points respectively.
