Australia head coach Dave Rennie has made six changes to the starting line up for the third round of the Rugby Championship clash against South Africa in Adelaide.

The decision comes after the team suffered a 17-48 defeat against Argentina in the second round of the competition.

James Slipper will continue to captain the side in the absence of Michael Hooper but will be joined by tighthead prop Allan Alaalatoa and hooker Folau Fainga’a in the front row with Taniela Tupou dropping to the bench.

Matt Philip with 24 caps to his name replaces Darcy Swain and makes it to the second row alongside Rory Arnold while there are no changes in the back row.

Rennie has banked on Noah Lolesio to take up the kicking responsibility and Nic White will partner with him at halfback. Marika Koroibete retains his place at left wing while Tom Wright shifts from fullback to right wing.

The final two changes sees Reece Hodge moved to fullback while Hunter Paisami joins Len Ikitau at midfield.

“It’s great to have a number of experienced players back in the mix this weekend,” Rennie said.

“We understand that respect is earned daily and we get an opportunity to earn it against the current world champions on Saturday afternoon.

"It’s really motivating to be back at home in front of our supporters, especially in Adelaide, a place we haven’t played at in 18 years.”
