Newcastle Falcons have confirmed that Argentina wing Mateo Carreras has left the Gallagher Premiership club with immediate effect.

Carreras joined Newcastle Falcons in 2021 after featuring for Los Tarcos and Jaguares XV and has gone on to make 39 appearances for the club scoring 16 tries.

The 24-year-old was originally set to make a move to Bayonne at the end of the ongoing season but now has completed the switch to the French club after mutual agreement between the two sides.

He made his Argentina debut in 2018 and since then has been capped 17 times.

"Newcastle Falcons would like to thank Mateo for his contribution during his time in England, and everyone at the club wishes him all the best for his move," read a statement from the club.

Meanwhile, the club also confirmed that Gloucester’s Alex Hearle will join Newcastle Falcons in the summer after agreeing to a two year contract.

“I can’t wait to play under Dimes again,” he said.

“I had a great experience with him at Worcester Warriors before the unfortunate end to that period, and I love the type of environment he creates.

“I’m really looking forward to coming up to Newcastle in the summer, and I’ve played there on quite a few occasions. Every time I’ve been there I can’t believe how passionate the fans are, and it’ll be nice to have them on my side for once."
