Gloucester Rugby have secured the services of Argentina international Santiago Carreras for the remainder of the 2020/21 season.

Carreras made his professional rugby debut with Super Rugby club Jaguares in 2019 but now is set to make his debut in the English Premiership for the Cherry and Whites joining his international team-mate Matias Alemanno.

The 22-year-old made his international debut for Argentina in 2019 and featured in the four World Cup games later in the year in Japan. He also featured in three Rugby Championship games for the Pumas in which they finished second after two draws against Australia and a historic win over New Zealand for the first time.

Gloucester Chief Operating Officer Alex Brown expressed delight in the 5ft 11in centre joining the club.

"Santiago is an exciting, young player who has burst onto the scene in the last couple of years," Brown told in a statement released by the club.

"His versatility in the backline adds further strength in depth to our group and adds that extra competition for places that every squad needs.

"From his performances in the recent Rugby Championship, you can see he is a dangerous player and someone who can give us real momentum in attack, and we are looking forward to seeing him in Cherry & White very soon."

Gloucester are positioned ninth in the Gallagher Premiership table with a solitary win from three games and will face Lyon in the opening round of the Heineken Champions Cup on Sunday.
