Wallabies coach Eddie Jones says he is not looking to remain with Australia beyond the upcoming Rugby World Cup scheduled in France later this year.

Jones took in charge of the Wallabies in January this year replacing Dave Rennie and is originally contracted until 2027.

Despite his contract extending beyond the upcoming showpiece event, Jones insists he wanted to leave the role irrespective of the result in France.

“I’m only coaching ’til this World Cup,” Jones told Evening Standard Rugby Podcast.

“I’ve signed [until the end of 2027], but as I’ve made the mistake before, I’ve stayed too long.

"So we win the World Cup, it will be time to go. If we lose the World Cup, it will be time to go.”

Jones, who previously guided Australia to a 2003 Rugby World Cup triumph was the head coach of England between 2015 and 2022 before the Rugby Football Union sacked him from the position and replaced with Steve Borthwick.

Australia are grouped in Pool C of the Rugby World Cup alongside Wales, Fiji, Georgia and Portugal.
