Australia have added former All Black prop Aidan Ross to their squad ahead of the third and final Test against the British and Irish Lions in Sydney, as the Wallabies aim to avoid a 3-0 series whitewash.

The final match of the series is scheduled for Saturday, with the Lions already leading 2-0 after victories in Brisbane and Melbourne.

Ross, 29, was born in Australia but moved to New Zealand as a child. He made a single appearance for the All Blacks in 2022 against Ireland.

Under World Rugby’s eligibility rules, players can switch national teams after a three-year stand-down period, which Ross has now completed.

He joins the Wallabies following a strong season with the Waikato Chiefs, with whom he reached the milestone of 100 Super Rugby appearances earlier this year. Ross will move to the Queensland Reds for the 2025 season.

Meanwhile, wing Harry Potter has been ruled out of the final Test due to a hamstring injury. Potter started in the second Test but limped off in the first quarter, forcing scrum-half Tate McDermott to shift to the wing in an improvised backline reshuffle.

Wallabies head coach Joe Schmidt now faces a selection decision to fill the vacancy left by Potter. Among the options are Dylan Pietsch, Filipo Daugunu, and Corey Toole, all of whom bring pace and versatility to the backline.

Australia will be looking to salvage pride in Sydney after coming close in Melbourne, where they led for much of the game before falling 29-26 in the dying moments.
