Tokyo based Super Rugby franchise Sunwolves is set to become the fourth team to be axed from the competition in recent times according to reports.
According to the report from The Australian, an official statement is set to be released by the SANZAAR on Friday about the fate of the Japanese side.
"SANZAAR and its stakeholders will not be making any comment on Super Rugby until the statement has been released," the organisation said on Wednesday.
Sunwolves had a struggling impact ever since 2016 when they joined Super Rugby having won just seven out of the 43 games.
Even in the current season, Sunwolves are positioned fourth in the Australian Conference with a solitary win from five games.
Sunwolves managed to retain their place ahead of the 2018 season when SANZAAR decided to axe Australia based Western Force and South African sides Cheetahs and Kings making it a 15 team competition.
