Bath Rugby have confirmed the signing of South African hooker Jacques du Toit with immediate effect.

The 27-year-old will arrive in Bath on the weekend and will undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine period before linking up with the squad.

Bath director of rugby Stuart Hooper is confident that du Toit's abilities will be beneficial to the club.

“We are really pleased to welcome Jacques and his family to Bath Rugby," he told in a statement released by the club.

"Jacques came to our attention after some impressive performances in South Africa.

"After speaking with Jacques and understanding his motivations we concluded that he is exactly the right type of person and player that we want to add to our squad.

“Jacques is a physical forward who is able to use his skills to keep play alive with his handling ability and explosive running. He will fight for a shirt with the Blue, Black and White and adds to our depth in the position.”

Du Toit started his career with provincial side Free State Cheetahs in 2014 and went on to make his Super Rugby debut for Cheetahs two years later. He also made a switch to Southern Kings in 2019 before before the club fell into liquidation following which he rejoined Cheetahs in 2020.

Bath are currently positioned ninth in the Gallagher Premiership table with two wins from six games.
