The South Africa Rugby Union has confirmed that Springboks fly-half Elton Jantjies has been sent home from the tour of Argentina following media reports of an affair with the team's dietician.

The report went on to add that the 32-year-old, who is married, spent time at a guesthouse with a woman last month ahead of the team's clash against New Zealand in Mbombela with the rest of the squad staying elsewhere.

A statement from the South African board revealed that both Jantjies and dietitian Zeenat Simjee are sent back home to avoid any distractions as they look to seal the Rugby Championship title.

“The Springbok management are aware of reports regarding Springbok fly-half Elton Jantjies and team dietician Zeenat Simjee,” read a statement.

“No team protocols were breached, but the individuals are returning to South Africa to attend to these personal reports and to eliminate any distractions to the team’s preparations for the Test against Argentina.”

This was not the first time Jantjies was involved in an off-field controversy as in May he was arrested for damaging a property of an airline he had flown with from Dubai to Johannesburg. However, he was released in June after the case was provisionally withdrawn.
