Scarlets hooker Emyr Phillips will undergo surgery on a dislocated shoulder and is likely to miss Wales' RBS 6 Nations campaign as a result.

The Guinness Pro12 club confirmed that Phillips, 27, will be ruled out for up to three months, which would see him miss the entirety of the 6 Nations campaign.

He suffered the injury during the Scarlets' 17-15 defeat to Ospreys on Saturday and he will undergo an operation in early January.

Wales begin their 6 Nations campaign at home to England on 6th February and finish against Italy on 21st March.

"Scarlets can today confirm that hooker Emyr Phillips will undergo surgery in the New Year," a statement from the club said.

"Phillips, 27, dislocated his right shoulder in the West Wales derby clash against Ospreys at the Liberty Stadium last Saturday and will undergo surgery on Friday, 2nd January.

"It is expected that Phillips will be sidelined for up to 12 weeks."

Phillips made his debut for Wales playing against Japan in June 2013 and has earned three caps to date.
