Saracens have confirmed that director of rugby Mark McCall will take a 'short break' from the game due to 'medical reasons'.

McCall has been in charge of the club since the 2010/11 season and under him the club went on to win five Premiership and three European Champions Cup titles.

He also played a pivotal role in the club gaining promotion back to the Premiership after they faced an automatic relegation to the second tier at the end of the 2019/20 season for a series of salary cap breaches.

"People will always come first at our club and Mark will be given all of the support and time he needs," read a statement from the club.

"Meanwhile we would ask that everyone respects Mark's privacy.

"Mark is obviously more than confident in the coaching team he has worked with for many years to temporarily take the reins."

Saracens are positioned second in the Gallagher Premiership table with eight victories from 12 matches.
