Sale Sharks will miss the services of United States international AJ MacGinty for the next 12 weeks following a shoulder injury.
The 28-year-old sustained the injury while playing for Eagles and underwent a surgery last week.
The decision to go under the knife came after a non-surgical option to recover from the injury went unsuccessful and as a result MacGinty will be sidelined for close to three months.
“AJ had an operation last week to avoid any further complications with his injury, His anticipated return will be in around 12 weeks time and the club sends its best wishes to him for a speedy and complete recovery,” said Sale director of rugby Steve Diamond.
The news is a big blow for the AJ Bell Stadium outfit after they were hit by the news on Marland Yarde, who will miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury.
Sale Sharks kicked-started their European Rugby Challenge Cup campaign with a 24-41 win over Perpignan and will take on Connacht in the second round of the competition on 20th October.
