The 29-year-old joins from Fijian Drua, where he has competed in Super Rugby since 2023. Capable of playing across the back row, including flanker and number eight, Elia is recognised for his ball carrying and defensive work.

He has earned 20 caps for Fiji and featured during the recent international season, including an appearance against England in the Autumn Series.

Fiji International And Sevens Background

Elia previously represented Fiji in the Sevens circuit, making his breakthrough on the World Sevens Series in 2021. His performances contributed to multiple tournament titles and a Commonwealth Games silver medal.

He later transitioned fully to the 15-a-side format and was named Fiji’s Players’ Player of the Year in 2025 following consistent performances at club and international level.

Elia expressed enthusiasm about competing in the English Prem and linking up with his new teammates ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

“I’m excited about coming to play for a club like Sale Sharks in the Prem. It’s a great competition and a club with a lot of history and it’s a great opportunity for me to experience something different.

“I know some of the players from playing against them for Fiji. I can’t wait to play with Tom Curry because he’s one of the best players in the world in my position.

“I love the physical side of the game so I think I will suit the style of Sale Sharks. I know Bill Mata from the national team so I’m looking forward to playing against him.”
