Rory Sutherland signs new deal with Edinburgh

Scotland international Rory Sutherland has penned a new two-year deal with Edinburgh that will keep him with the Pro 12 club until May 2019.

Having been part of Scotland Under-17 and Under-18 teams in the past, Sutherland joined Edinburgh in 2014.

The 24-year-old made his debut from the bench for Scotland in the final game of 2016 Six Nations against Ireland and has overall played three Tests for his country.

Sutherland believes the decision to extend his stay at Edinburgh was a straightforward decision.

"I've enjoyed my two and a half years with Edinburgh and the club has done me well. Everything is moving forward and I'm really happy to be a part of the team for another two seasons," Sutherland said on the club's official website, www.edinburghrugby.org.

"There's a good feeling around the club just now and I feel that this is the right place for me to stay to take my rugby to the next level and try to continue being involved in the Scotland set-up."

Interim head coach Duncan Hodge lavished praises on Sutherland and is confident he has a bright future with Edinburgh as well as with Scotland.

"Securing Rory for another two seasons is a huge boost for the squad.

"He's accomplished a lot in his first few years at the club - clocking up over 50 Edinburgh Rugby appearances and his hard work was rewarded earlier this year when he was capped by the national team."

Sutherland is currently recovering from a groin injury.
