Petrie appointed Edinburgh director

Former Scotland captain Jonny Petrie has been appointed managing director of Edinburgh.

The former Glasgow skipper had been working for the Scottish Rugby Union as commercial operations manager following a role as head of sponsorship at energy firm SSE.

The 38-year-old, who won 45 Scotland caps, said: "I am very much looking forward to this new challenge of leading a club with such a strong history and exciting future.

"We have a great opportunity to build on the team's success in reaching the first European final for a Scottish professional team last season.

"I know there is a real desire to take the club forward and help ensure the players can give the fans plenty to cheer about in the seasons to come and I look forward to meeting many of the supporters in the coming months."
