Northampton Saints have confirmed that South Africa international Heinrich Brussow will join the Aviva Premiership club at the start of the next year.

Brussow has a 12-year experience with the Super Rugby club Cheetahs before he joined Japanese Top League club Docomo Red Hurricanes for the last two seasons.

He will switch to Franklin's Gardens in January following the end of his commitment with the Hurricanes.

"My wife and I feel it is time for a new challenge. I want to play my best possible rugby and hopefully contribute to winning a few trophies," the openside said.

Brussow has been signed as a replacement for France international Louis Picamoles, who joined Top 14 club Montpellier after completing the first of his three-year contract with the Saints.

The 31-year-old has featured in 23 Tests for South Africa since his debut in 2008 and his last appearance came in August 2015.
