Northampton Saints have confirmed that hooker Mike Haywood has signed a new multi-year deal with the Gallagher Premiership club.

Haywood has been with Northampton Saints since his professional rugby debut in 2011 after graduating from their Academy and has made over 200 appearances for the club since then.

“Saints is my home and I’m very happy here,” said Haywood to the official website of the club.

“I didn’t have to think twice about extending. Every time I pull on the jersey, I feel very honoured to represent this great Club. It means so much to me to run out at Franklins Gardens on matchday.

“The direction that Chris and the rest of the coaching staff are taking Saints is very exciting to be part of and I am confident that the squad can go on and achieve great things together.”

Northampton Saints director of rugby Chris Boyd lavished praise on the 28-yea-old and is delighted in retaining his services.

“We are delighted to announce that Mikey will continue to play his rugby with Saints,” said Boyd.

“Since coming through the Academy system, he has established himself as a senior member of the playing group.

“He always gives absolutely everything he’s got, both in training and on matchday – you would be hard pressed to find a more hardworking and dedicated player.

“Mikey is part of an exciting crop of hookers in our squad who are all pushing each other to improve every day.”

Northampton Saints are positioned second in the Gallagher Premiership table with six wins from eight games while they are placed second in Pool 1 of the Heineken Champions Cup with two victories from four matches.
