After three weeks of solid pre season Liverpool University 1st XV went into their second pre season game in good shape.

Although in their first game they fell just short against North Wales Academy they had a solid foundation to build on. With Koi Hogg, Matt Lowes and Ali Andress all coming back in the team, Liverpool knew they had Sedgley there for the taking.

The excitement may have got to the Liverpool side with a first 10 minutes they would rather choose to forget!

Sedgley Park Tigers found themselves with a huge overlap twice in the first 10 minutes and managed to capitalise with two tries scored and both converted to make it 14-0 to the home side. After a stern talking to under the posts from coach Dave Peet, Liverpool buckled up their ideas and kept Sedgley out for the rest of the game.

After 20 minutes Liverpool made a good break from a swift backs move and although they were stopped short by a good tackle, the forwards rumbled on with second row Adam Newman going over to make the score 14-7. The reliable boot of fly half Dom Coe brought Liverpool back into the game with two sweetly struck penalties to make the half time score 14-13.

The second half was end to end with both teams producing promising attacks with nothing to show for it.

Going into the last five minutes there was still just one point in the game. Liverpool managed to force their way downfield and found themselves camped in the opponents 22.

The forwards, again, rumbled towards the line and with good composure they found themselves over the line, Tom Rivers with the all-important try to leave the score Sedgley 14-18 Liverpool University.

After the game Sedgley topped off a wonderful evening with their great hospitality. On the whole this was a good game for Liverpool Universtily 1st XV who will go into their first BUCS game against UCLAN with great confidence.
