Leicester Tigers have confirmed that assistant coach Rob Taylor has been granted early release from the contract.

Taylor started his coaching stint with the Tigers in 2020 and has the experience of working with Auckland, Sydney University and NSW Country Eagles in the past.

Academy head coach Matt Smith has been named as a replacement for Taylor on an interim basis according to the club statement.

Leicester Tigers head coach Steve Borthwick wished Taylor good luck on his future endeavours.

“On behalf of the players, coaching team and everybody at Leicester Tigers, I thank Rob for his efforts and contribution to our club,” said Borthwick to the official website of the club.

“It has been a shorter stay than we would have all hoped, but we are grateful for what he has given to Tigers and wish him well in whatever comes next.”

"I wish the coaches, players and staff the very best," added Taylor.

Leicester Tigers had a disappointing 2019/20 season of Premiership where they finished 11th with just six wins from 22 games.
