Leinster scrum-half Luke McGrath will be sidelined for up to eight weeks following a knee injury.

The 30-year-old sustained the injury in the 50th minute of the United Rugby Championship opener against Glasgow Warriors where he was forced to leave the field in the 50th minute.

He did not involve in the second round game against Sharks which they went on to win 13-34.

The news is a big blow to the Irish province, who are already without Cian Healy for two months due to a shoulder injury while hooker John McKee is also sidelined for a couple of weeks due to a hamstring problem.

McGrath has been part of Leinster since 2012 and has played for Ireland in 19 Tests.

Leinster are positioned 11th in the United Rugby Championship table with a win and a defeat apiece in the two matches.
