Newport Gwent Dragons stand-off Jason Tovey is heading to Edinburgh on a loan deal that will run until the end of the 2015-16 season.

Since 2008, Tovey has made 163 appearance for the Dragons, scoring 963 points, also spending a year on loan with Cardiff Blues in 2012-13.

Dragons director of rugby Lyn Jones said: "It's so important for players to experience rugby outside of their comfort zone during their career.

"Jason has served his region very well over the years, but will need more game time at this stage of his career.

"We feel that our future at fly-half lies with Dorian Jones, Angus O'Brien and Arwel Robson and all will be contesting for game time between now and the end of the season."

Tovey also made 10 appearances for Wales U20s and was part of a 45-man Wales training squad ahead of the 2011 World Cup.
